Bell Schedule?

4/30/2015

Hey Everyone! If you go to CKMS, you already know that our bell schedule can be pretty complicated and can cause hectic situations. For this week's constructive response, I'll be talking about if I could change the bell schedule at school. If I could change the bell schedule, I would change it back to the regular alternating a/b block days, have lunch with both teams, and move advisory to the morning.
The first thing I would change about our bell schedule at school is the block days. Currently, the schedule is mixed up. There are back to back a days, b days, and just regular a and b days. I'm pretty sure they did this because of SBAC testing. If I could change it, I'd make it back to how it was, to alternating a and b days. It's really complicated how it is now since I still have to check constantly to see which block day it is. Because of the back to back blocks, we only have a short amount of time to study for tests or do homework. In a way, it kind of helps me break the habit of procrastinating or waiting until the last minute. But if I could change the bell schedule at school, I would change it back to the regular alternating a/b block days.
Another thing that I would change about our bell schedule at school is the lunch times. Last year, both upstairs and downstairs teams ate lunch at the same time. But this year, lunch is different. The downstairs teams eat lunch first, while the upstairs team has advisory. After that, the upstairs team has lunch, while the downstairs team has advisory. With this new lunch schedule, the teams cannot eat lunch together, except on mondays. This is bad because friends can not eat or hang out together, and it ends ups drifting friendships apart. So, if I could change the bell schedule, I would put the lunches together. They said that having separate lunches would make the lines move along faster. In my opinion, it doesn't really make a difference from last year. Therefore, changing the lunches back wouldn't affect the speed of getting your lunch. If I could change the bell schedule at school, I would change it back to the regular lunch times.
The third thing I would change about our bell schedule is the advisory. Last year, advisory was in the morning, where we had the morning announcements. This year, however, advisory was placed in the middle of the day. If I could change the bell schedule, I'd move advisory back to the morning for several reasons. First, in the morning everyone is tired and starts to wake up to start the day. With our new bell schedule, we start off the day in x-block. Since everyone is tired, it makes us less productive during x-block. If we started off the day in advisory, we could practice for the announcements and work on our projects. It would also be less confusing. Since the lunch and advisory schedule is mixed up, it can get confusing. We also wouldn't need to record the announcements to play it back if advisory is at the same time in the morning. If I could change the bell schedule at school, I would move advisory back to the morning.
In conclusion, if I could change three things about the bell schedule, I would change the block days, the lunch times, and when advisory starts. Overall, the bell schedule can be complex, but I got used to it. The staff and administration alters the schedule so that we can fit in everything we need. These are just some things that I could change about the bell schedule if I could. Well, that's it for my constructive response! Thanks for reading! Bye!
